{{Book Review}} The Seed | Young Madeline and Roark are desperately running from the shadow that destroyed their home and is threatening their lives.

One day, they encounter Tatus, an older man who has sworn to avenge the death of his family at the hands of the shadow, and they form an alliance with him. Tatus promises that he can keep them safe from the shadow if they will help him build a fortress. So they build.

But as fortress-building consumes their lives, Madeline and Roark are increasingly filled with anger and fear, and an unseen evil threatens to ultimately destroy them. When they finally face the shadow, he presents them with an unthinkable offer that will reveal shocking secrets of the forgotten past, the unseen present, and the unimaginable future.

We've all had the feeling that something's not quite right with our lives. It's bigger than any specific failure or disappointment. It's bigger than any person. No matter what you achieve or how much you drink or sleep, you can't shake it. It haunts you---night and day---and propels you to do something. So you build. You build and build the maze that is your exhausting life. Sound vaguely familiar?

The Seed: A True Myth is a journey into the personal labyrinths we create to protect ourselves and those we love from the pain of living in a broken world. Guzman's "true myth" takes the reader on an unforgettable journey that is, in essence, the grand narrative of God's redemptive work in the world. This page-turning Christian fantasy tale is packed with mystery and drama, and readers will feel the weight and power of redemption as they journey alongside Guzman's characters in their epic battle. The Seed deftly communicates the heart of Trinitarian theology through story---without using theological language or Christian terms---and reinforces biblical themes such as God's character and man's true identity and calling.

*My Review*

"The Seed" is one of the most mesmerizing books that I have picked up in quite some time(and I read a lot of books). Erik Guzman does is amazing job at storytelling. This book is both is thrilling and magical. I had a hard time putting this book down. I can't wait to read more from this author.

{{Product Review}} Punderdome | A Card Game for Pun Lovers

From the daughter-father duo that created Brooklyn's beloved live pun competition comes Punderdome, the "Punderful card game [that] will replace Cards Against Humanity at your next party" (Mashable.com).

One part game, one part conversation starter, you don't need to be a pun master to master Punderdome: the goal is to make bad jokes and have fun along the way.

A player (the prompter for that round) draws two prompt cards from the deck, and then reads the prompts to the rest of the group, who have 90 seconds to create a single, groan-worthy pun that combines the two prompts.

When time is up, pun makers share their puns with the prompter, who awards the prompt cards to the player whose pun he or she likes best. The winner then draws the next pair of prompt cards and the process repeats. Players win by obtaining 10 pairs of cards.

Every Game Set Comes With:
·         200 double-sided cards (100 White and 100 Green)
·         2 Mystery Envelopes with fill-in prize slips
·         2 80-page pads for drafting puns
·         1 instruction card and 1 pun example card
·         A stu-PUN-dous time for 3 or more players

*My Review*
Punderdome the card game is simplicity itself.  The whole point is to put together a pun. I.E. Commuting + Musicals could be: "Beauty and the Bus" or "Gentlemen Prefer Bike Lanes". The card reader judges which is best. It's a fast-paced game, and is a great way to spend time with family and friends(ages 12 & up). My daughter and husband ALWAYS like to make corny puns....so this will be loads of fun!

{{Book Review}} My Father’s House | Growing up, life is idyllic for Lily Rose Cates due to one constant --- her father's love.

But in her sixteenth summer, all that changes without warning. There begins Lily's struggle to find herself and the life she's lost. . . . Marriage promises fulfillment, but her happily-ever-after barely survives the honeymoon. Her husband's sophisticated façade hides a brooding man with even darker secrets.

When all illusions shatter, Lily must make hard choices --- abandon her husband or risk losing much more than her marriage. She flees their home in Detroit and sets out on a fearful journey to a house in Georgia that her husband knows nothing about. This is one woman's compelling tale of love and survival as she finds her way back home to who she's meant to be . . . in her father's house.

*My Review*
In "My Father's Housr", Lily Rose's story begins slowly, the pace takes a dramatic swing a few chapters in. Once you get to that part, you will want to keep reading until the end. Johnson's characters are very well-rounded-- though some are ornery.

I believe(& pray) that this book will give hope to anyone who's made relationship mistakes and needs to know that Jesus has not forgotten you!!!

{{Product Review}} ThermaCell | BRISTOL LANTERN!

The Thermacell Mosquito Repeller Bristol Lantern effectively repels mosquitoes, black flies, and other biting insects by creating a 15 x 15-foot zone of protection for bug-free comfort. Its ambient light and decorative design perfectly adorn your deck or patio. Ideal for use while you are gardening, observing outdoor sporting events, and hanging around the backyard, Thermacell Lanterns have been evaluated by the EPA for safety and effectiveness.
  • Works with all Thermacell repellent mats and refills
  • Includes: Thermacell Bristol Lantern, 3 Original repeller mats, 1 butane cartridge
  • Requires 3 AAA-batteries (not included)

*My thoughts*

I was recently sent this ThermaCell Patio Shield BRISTOL lantern to review(thanks to U.S. Family Guide & ThermaCell). This Lantern provides a 15x15 Mosquito protection zone.
Here in Texas the Skeeters(as my littles call them)aren't that big, but back home in Louisiana they are MASSIVE.

I did try the lantern out once before writing my review. This Lantern will be going to my nephew who has in the past year or two decided to take up hiking and mountain climbing. I thought this lantern would be good for him when he goes camping.

I have decided to purchase one for us to have here, though we don't really go camping....seriously....my idea of "Camping" is in a nice hotel with free WIFI & a super comfy bed!

This will be useful for when we go home to La to visit and those pesky mosquitos are out.

One thing I will say is this, it DOES use the pads & butane quickly, but overall this lantern is well worth it.

I received the above product free from U.S Family Guide & ThermaCell in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

{{Book Review}} Dawn at Emberwilde | Isabel Creston never dared to dream that love could be hers. Now, at the edge of a forest filled with dark secrets, she faces a fateful choice between love and duty.

For as long as she can remember, beautiful and free-spirited Isabel has strained against the rules and rigidity of the Fellsworth School in the rolling English countryside. No longer a student, Isabel set her sights on a steady role as a teacher at the school, a safe yet stifling establishment that would enable her to care for her younger sister Lizzie, who was left in her care after her father's death.

The unexpected arrival of a stranger with news of unknown relatives turns Isabel's small, predictable world upside down, sweeping her and her young charge into a labyrinth of intrigue and hidden motives.

At her new family's invitation, Isabel and Lizzie relocate to Emberwilde, a sprawling estate adjacent to a vast, mysterious wood rife with rumors and ominous folklore---along with whispers of something far more sinister. Perhaps even more startling, two handsome men begin pursuing Isabel, forcing her to learn the delicate dance between attraction, the intricate rules of courtship, and the hopes of her heart.

At Emberwilde Isabel will discover that the key to unlocking the mystery of her past may also open the door to her future and security. But first she must find it---in the depths of Emberwilde Forest.

*My Review*

I'm not sure how to write my review this book without being too harsh. I liked it & thought it was an okay read, but I found it to be slow.  I haven't read the first book in this series, but I think this book was okay to be read as a stand alone, but I plan on reading book one, just so I know what happened.

Even though this is a Christian novel, I didn't see much going on in the way of spirituality. There are a few scriptures that are read, but that's about it. This is a "clean" romance though, which is always a big plus for me. I try not to read/review books that I wouldn't want to pass on to my 12 yr old.

While this is definitely NOT a book that I would have gone out and paid money for, I don't regret having read it. I will keep this book for my 12 yr old, if she wishes to read it, & I will keep reading more from Sarah E. Ladd, but my feelings are that for a mystery/romance...everything was so slow.

Just because I didn't LOVE the book, doesn't mean that my readers won't enjoy it. It was just one of those times that I didn't love it. If I posted a 5 star review for EVERY book that I reveiw, it wouldn't be true and I want nothing but the truth posted in my reviews.

*My Review*
I thought this book would be a great way to learn how to grow a garden with less water. Pam Penick is a garden designer. Like my family and I, She lives in Texas, so she has experience gardening in a water challenged area.

The Water-Saving Garden has 5 informative sections on planning your garden to the best water-saving advantage possible. She includes photo examples of gardens that use the advice given in the book.
This book covers landscaping inspiration, water storage, irrigation techniques, planting timelines, essentials to building better soil, and the best plants for water-saving gardens.
This book was so helpful as I planned what would work best in our garden(once we actually plant one). It even has tips for vegetable and herb gardens. I look forward to using this book as a reference.

{{Product Review}} 100 Assorted Pokemon Card Lot with Random 6 Foils | #GoldenGroundhogPKMNLots

I'll start this post off by saying that I am not a pokemon fan/player/collector, however, my husband and 12 yr old are. My husband has been playing Pokemon TCG for 17+ years now, my daughter just started playing in tournaments a few years ago.

I knew I had to get these to review for them. I applied to review them not knowing if they are ones he could use in is current deck or if we could use them for he and my daughter to trade with others with when we go to events.

I received 100 pokemon cards, 6 foils, 1 damage card, 1 burn card, & 1 poision card from . After my husband looked through the cards he said some of the cards they can def use, others he's not sure about, he said it will depend on what format they are using.

While I don't know much about the cards, I'm happy that my husband and daughter will be able to put these cards to use by either playing, collection, or trading.

I would recommend everyone check out golden groundhog on amazon if you are looking for pokemon cards, either for yourself or as a gift for someone you know! They also sell other types of cards as well. You can check them out by going here: https://www.amazon.com/Assorted-Pokemon-Random-Groundhog-Counters/dp/B010OOJMWI?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

*My Review*
I was recently sent this 14 oz travel mug to review. This mug is absolutely 100% awesome! I don't usually use stuff like this, but this one is perfect and so cute. It is 100% organic, made from rise husk.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure I would like it at first, but once it arrived and I saw it in person I was excited to try it out! I used it on our trip from Texas to Mississippi. We made a stop at one of our fav Starbucks in (North) Louisiana & I got a frappuccino. After Devouring the whipped cream, I poured (most) of drink into my travel mug and it stayed cold for quite a while. Usually when I get a frappuccino I have to drink it quickly to keep it from becoming just a warm yucky mess.

With this mug, I was able to sip on it a little at a time. I am actually going to be purchasing 4 more(one for my husband & my three children).

I LOVE that it is leak proof mug with the perfect fit with the silicon seal. Some of my favorite features is that this mug is; dishwasher safe,  FDA-Approved and BPA-Free

meaning that you never have to give chemically produced products to your family/friends again

Adventures in Odyssey Summer Challenge 2016

This summer, you can join Adventures in Odyssey’s Clubhouse Magazine and help children in the Middle East go to school and learn English. It’s Adventures in Odyssey's Clubhouse Magazine Exercise to Educate summer challenge!

Screen Shot 2016-06-03 at 6.01.34 PM

The Problem

Nearly 7,000 miles away from the United States, there's a war going on in the country of Syria. Many families have been forced from their homes. Parents have had to leave their jobs, and children have had to leave behind toys and friends.

Many of these families now live in refugee camps in nearby countries. They have tents instead of houses. Clean water is hard to come by. This war has put 2.6 million children out of school – some for more than four years already.

The Solution

Our friends at Focus on the Family Middle East know many families who don't have the money to buy a school uniform and pay for their children to go to school. They also know people who would love to teach children English in local churches.

You may not have a lot of money to help, but you probably have time, energy and excitement. Here's what you can do:

1. Go to to Whitsend.org/summer.
2. Print a sponsor sheet and exercise to earn points. You can do it for a week or the whole summer – just remember, the more you exercise, the more points you'll earn!
3. Ask your family and friends to sponsor your efforts.
4. Beginning in July, tell us how you did and receive a digital bundle from your friends at Adventures in Odyssey and Focus on the Family. The deadline to submit your information is August 31, 2016.

For participating and submitting your information, you will get a free Adventures in Odyssey episode from Album 51. You will also get 101 Surefire Ways to Strengthen Your Child's Faith – eBook and the audio book of Imagination Station #1, “Voyage with the Vikings.” Make the most of your summer—exercise for your health and help other kids in need while you do!

{{Book Review}} Sister Eve and the Blue Nun | After a murder at the monastery, Sister Eve may need a miracle if she is to prove a dear friend isn't a cold-blooded killer.

Sister Eve, a motorcycle-riding nun with a natural (or is it supernatural?) gift for solving murders returns to the enclave she once called home and quickly finds herself confronting yet another mysterious death.

Someone has poisoned Dr. Kelly Middlesworth---a researcher on the life and ministry of 17th-century's revered "Blue Nun"---and a set of irreplaceable historic documents have disappeared before they could even be examined.

When all evidence seems to point to the victim's brother, Sister Eve sets out to expose the killer and learn the explosive truth those missing manuscripts might contain.

Chasing a killer is dangerous work, and as her two worlds collide, Sister Eve may need some heavenly help simply to survive.

*My Reiew*
I must say, I did not enjoy reading "Sister Eve and the Blue Nun". We(the readers) are subjected to many details including Eve including items in a room, the scenery, knocking on a door, putting a car in reverse, etc. The pace for this book is very slow and only picks up a little bit towards the end.

The idea of a nun investigating crimes is a good one, but I did not like the author’s interpretation. There are very few clues, but they are all you need to solve the crime (the killer was obvious). A lot of the book is devoted to Sister Eve’s thinking (and over thinking). One thing that was extremely annoying was Sister Eve’s constantly correctly people on the pronunciation of her late name (Divine). She did it every time she gave her last name. But when she is corrected on the proper pronunciation of someone else’s name, she does not like it. Even though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without having enjoyed the previous books. This book was just not for me, but that doesn't mean my readers won't enjoy it.
