23andMe Results!!

Growing up I was told I was Scottish, French, German, & Irish....and then when I was 12/13 I found out that I wasn’t blood related to the only family I grew up with. My mom was adopted, so we never knew her family.

I found out who my biological dad was when I was 12/13 but never knew what our family history was until I asked him a few years ago. My dad told me that his side of the family is French (Canadian & Cajun), German, & Native American.

I decided to do the 23andMe test because I wanted to know for sure, and so that I would be able to tell my daughters about my side of the family.

I sent the kit back to 23andMe around the 18th of Sept, they received it on the 21st, and the processed was finished and my results were in by the 28th of Sept. Overall I am very pleased with how little time it took for me to get my results. I will say this though, I CRIED when I read the results...not because it was bad, but because it confirmed what I was told and I learned that I’m more than what I’ve been told!

Read to learn my results?!? Let’s get on with it..

I am 99.8% European! Let’s break that down...

I am 48.6% British & Irish, 35.8% French & German, 2.1% Iberian (Hispanic), 11.5% Broadly Northwestern European (Which means my ancestry could be from as far west as Ireland, as far north as Norway, as Far East as Finland & as far south as France), 0.1% Broadly Southern European (Southern Europe including Iberian, Italian, and Balkan peninsulas as well as the island of Malta), 1.7% Broadly European, and 0.2% East Asian & Native American.

The really cool part of this is that I found out that my mom (maternal haplogroup H3c) was related to Marie Antoinette!!!

I plan on buying my dad a 23andMe kit so I can get my paternal haplogroup as well.

Have you ever used 23andMe? What were your results??
